Hello and welcome to section three of tracing your ancestors in the UK for beginners. In this section we are going to be looking at civil registration records. In other words birth, marriage and death certificates. We'll be using online search engines. So there's an important video on spelling coming up. And because it's very important to understand the documents, we're using genealogy.
I'll be telling you a little bit about the history of civil registration and its relevant dates. We will then be getting down to the nitty gritty of actually doing some research and searching the indexes. And you will start your own research in this area as we go along. Once you've had a go at research will be then really looking at how you actually order the copies of the certificates and then having a look at the information that is contained in each type of certificate. We'll end with a little quiz. And by the end of this section, you will be fully aware of how and when to use certificates as well as the best ways of searching for them.
